Event Details
in an entrancing multi-media theatrical production that combines photo projections from the past with a pitch-perfect ensemble that brings the history of the French music hall to life.
Created by eminent Nice-based producer and director Gil Marsalla, whose other works celebrate the French cabaret of the early 20th century and music hall legend Charles Aznavour, Piaf! was conceived to honor its subject in celebration of what would have been her centennial in 2015. From its start in front of small audiences to sold-out nights at Carnegie Hall, the show has been performed over 300 times in 33 countries and made a star of Carrere, whose vibrant alto, vivacious humor, and magnetic presence will light up Herbst Theatre. Piaf! makes its Bay Area debut with this exclusive performance — a step back in time that makes abundantly clear why the life and career of Édith Piaf is a continuing source of joy and fascination to music fans around the world.
