Dress: Channel the royal vibes and rich hues of Tissot's La Femme à Paris: Ladies of the Chariots (1883-1885) crimson, chestnut, burgundy and metallics.
Event chairs: Sarah Lee and Alex Sweet, ArtPoint Co-Presidents
About the exhibition:
James Tissot: Fashion & Faith is organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Musées d’Orsay et de l’Orangerie, Paris. In San Francisco, the retrospective features approximately 70 paintings, works on paper, and cloisonné enamels. Exhibition highlights are drawn from the permanent collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, including Tissot’s Self-Portrait (ca. 1865) as well as prints and photographs from the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts. This expansive presentation explores how the artist’s richly detailed paintings provide insightful and complex commentary on 19th-century society, religion, fashion, and politics.
