Design Night: Out of This World
Exploring architecture in space
Human settlement on Mars was once a farfetched idea. But with the use of robotic construction and deployment, the plan for habitable bases on other planets have become reality. As part of NASA’s Mars 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge, igloo-like translucent and fiber-reinforced ice house structures printed by autonomous ice bots were conceived as livable bases for astronauts to inhabit when they arrive. While life on Mars is still far from reality, the design and construction methods used for projects like the Mars Ice House might be adapted for use in resource-poor areas of this planet, serving communities both near and far.
Join us at Design Night: Out of This World on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the Autodesk Gallery, and:
Hear from Melodie Yashar, co-founder and member of SEArch+ (Space Exploration Architecture), previous Design Director for Sonic Platforms
Partake in hands-on interplanetary activities, including creating your own habitable “space house”.
Enjoy intergalactic food and cocktails while dancing under the starry lights
Eat! Drink! Make! Learn!
